My
Story

Hi there! I'm so glad you stopped by! My name is Kathy Kautz. I am a landscape and wildlife artist based in the heart of the Canadian prairies. Through my art, I love to showcase the beauty of creation and the One who created it! Inspiration and wonderment is all around us, when we take the time to slow down and see it. My hope is to bring a touch of that wonderment and serenity into your space, and to create pieces that speak to the joy found in nature.

I was born to a farming family near Eyebrow Saskatchewan, and steeped throughout my childhood in a strong brew of faith, family values, love for our land, and appreciation of nature. As long as I can remember I loved to sketch and longed to paint, but though I dabbled a bit in oils as a young adult, the desire to paint was pushed to the back of my mind for many years as I pursued a career as a Registered Nurse, got married to a wonderful man, and raised six beautiful children together.

Then, 12 years ago, as I was approaching retirement from nursing, I knew I was going to need an activity to fill my days and add meaning to my life. The desire to paint began to surface again. I dug out my ancient brushes and paints, began watching instructional videos on the computer, and enrolled in some classes with local Saskatchewan artists. I set up a little studio in my home and began painting in all my spare time. By the time I retired from my enjoyable career as a nurse, I knew I had found the activity to fill my days and bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

As I began my artistic journey I found I was drawn to paint what I saw surrounding me in nature- the living skies, the trees adorned for their seasons, the waters teaming with life and movement, and the animals in their wild and beautiful glory. Even as a child I was filled with awe as I gazed up at the night sky, a dark canvas covered with millions of stars. At the hoarfrost, like icing decorating the branches of the bare trees. The colt, gleefully kicking up his heels in the grassy meadow. It has been in the natural world around me that I find inspiration to put my brush into movement.

Always, nature has pointed me to the Creator, who looked at everything He had made and said, "That's good!". I was made in His image, with a desire to recreate His good creation. He has given me a gift, though it is not having the ability to paint, but rather the immense joy and satisfaction that the act of painting brings to me. It brings me a sense of peace and hope in an uncertain world. It assures me that He is still in control of all things. My hope is that this peace will be shared through my artwork, and bring the observer a sense of joy and gratitude for the beauty that we have been gifted by Him who holds all in His hands.
